JMC includes approximately 850 student majors, 15 full-time and 19 adjunct professors. San Jose State University offers 134 bachelor's and master's degrees with 110 concentrations.

JMC is one of 110 programs nationwide approved by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. It is one of just seven AEJMC-accredited journalism and mass communications programs in California.

JMC occupies one of the oldest buildings on campus. The campus is in the heart of downtown San Jose which is located at the southern tip of San Francisco Bay. It is served by airports in San Jose (one-half hour away), San Francisco (one hour away) and Oakland (one hour away).
