Toilet Seat Attack

You're at your desk at the Daily Dazzle newspaper in San Jose. You've got a couple hours before your deadline and you're making beat checks, calling the fire departments, police departments and paramedics in the county to see if anything is going on. Lo and behold, something is.

Mountain View police Lt. Larry Bertuccelli tells you they just took a guy into El Camino Hospital (in Mountain View) with head wounds. It looks like he was beaten during a robbery.

The lieutenant tells you the victim, who's 24 and whose name they are not releasing, was lured into an apartment in his own apartment complex at 2200 California St. where he was beaten and robbed. The assailants also took the guy's car keys and drove off in his Toyota Corolla. This happened about 9:00 a.m. today. Police aren't disclosing the apartment number. Oh, and the weapon? It looks like he was hit again and again with a toilet lid.

Investigators think the two unidentified men who beat and robbed the guy may actually live in the apartment where the robbery took place. There was another robbery similar to this one just after midnight (12:30 a.m.) today in the same complex. That victim said two guys offered to sell him a VCR cheap. He wasn't beaten, just robbed. Police are looking for the tenants.
