Immediate and Delayed Identification Leads

 

 

Write an immediate identification lead and a delayed identification lead for each of the following sets of facts. Your leads should be 35 words or less, so carefully consider which of the facts belong in your lead, and which should go later in the story.

 

 

Fact Set #1: Pipe fitter

 

Who:        Duane La Chance, 55, Springfield, a pipe fitter employed by Gross Engineers, a company based in Springfield.

What:       Suffered third-degree burns and was listed in serious condition Wednesday night in the intensive care unit at Springfield Hospital

When:       3 p.m. yesterday

Where:      Springfield Municipal Power Plant, 222 Power Drive

How:         La Chance was installing new pipes on the roof of the power plant when he accidentally touched a power line carrying 15,000 volts with a piece of angle iron

Fact Set #2: Car accident

 

Who:         James W. Cunning, 20, 505 W. Stewart Road, and Wayne Clay, 19, Route 1, Springfield.

When:       11:45 a.m. today

Where:      On U.S. 63, one-tenth of a mile north of Blue Ridge Road

What/How:  Cunning was driving south on U.S. 63 in a 2005 Ford Focus. Clay apparently crossed the center line and struck the Cunning vehicle, according to an officer in the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. Cunning is in satisfactory condition at Springfield Hospital.
