Courses I Teach:

MCOM 136: Press and Camps -- World WarII. Students learn how the American media covered the Holocaust and the Japanese American Internment during World War Two. Guest speakers in Spring 2004 included Holocaust survivor Alicia Appleman Jurman author of "Alicia: My Story," and former internee Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, author of "Farewell to Manzanar." Students view important and compelling videos, tour the Japanese American Museum, and each will personally interview a survivor and a former internee in their homes to learn about first-hand individual tales of both events.
JRN 153: Magazine and Online Writing.
Students gain practical insight into the writing and selling of articles as a freelancer to a variety of magazines, newspapers and online markets. This course offers students the opportunity to hone their writing skills and gain a better understanding of the magazine medium, including: how to match article ideas (and articles) to the market, how to contact editors with your ideas, how to sell those ideas and the articles.

Other Courses I've Taught:

JRN 155: Magazine Editing & Production. Students produce Access magazine, the university’s general interest publication which has won over 180 regional and national awards for writing, editing, design, photography and artwork since 1986.
